Laudato Si: Our Care of Creation

In Pope Francis’

encyclical Laudato Si, there is a call to action for all people, especially Catholics, to engage in the work of caring for our Common Home, Mother Earth. The spark of that calling was embraced by a small group from various parishes (Annunciation, Holy Family, and Loyola) as well as religious members, who have been building community around translating our desire to help the earth into tangible action. The first steps we took were to increase our knowledge of the current state of various topics, which will be continually discerned to work on solutions in our own various life circumstances. We have taken tours of the Waste Management Recycling facility in Commerce City, and NCAR in Boulder. Our next tour will be at Earthlinks on August 13th at 10:00, with more tours to follow. While developing a sense of community, and a sense of where further action is needed, we will continue the work as a community in the Care for our Common Home. This is all part of the global Laudato Si movement, which embodies the motto to “Think Globally, Act Locally.”

“The ultimate purpose of other creatures is not to be found in us. Rather, all creatures are moving forward with us and through us towards a common point of arrival, which is God, in that transcendent fullness where the risen Christ embraces and illumines all things.”
